Tornio, Finland: 48 hours in Finnish Lapland
We had the pleasure of heading up to Tornio this month to photograph a wedding. After flying into Helsinki from London, we stayed the night at the Hilton Hotel. Our flight into Helsinki was delayed so only ended up checking in, dumping our bags, showering and finally getting into bed at 1am. We had to get up at 7am but my body clock was still London time. Yep. 5am.
Back to the airport bright and early for our 1.5 hour flight to Tornio - Finnish Lapland! We boarded an ATR72 which is the smallest plane I've ever been on with only 72 seats. There are only about two or three flights per day to Tornio so most of us who were on the plane were part of the wedding party.
On Friday morning we could at least have a late sleep in since most of the afternoon was spent location scouting for the portrait session for the wedding. Later that evening we enjoyed a barbecue with the bride and groom and all the guests.
Saturday was the day of the wedding. If you'd like to see the wedding you can head on over to my photography site and view it here.
I was physically tired after a 15 hour day shooting but at the end of it all, we sat by the river watching the sun come up with our hearts full. This was the view at about 3.30am.
Sunday morning we spent walking around the local area. We walked a short walk to the local mall, which once you get to the other side, you can do a quick walk over to Sweden!
We were the second and only flight out and the only ones in the airport. That's definitely a first for us!
